New Information on Fire-Resistant and Smoke-Control Doors

ARP OOD, a leading manufacturer of steel fire-resistant doors, aims to promptly inform its clients and distributors about the latest requirements regarding the conditions and procedures for incorporating fire-resistant and/or smoke-control pedestrian interior doors into construction projects in the Republic of Bulgaria.

On October 22, 2024, new regulations come into effect governing the incorporation of fire-resistant and/or smoke-control pedestrian interior doors in construction projects. This marks an important step toward enhanced safety and compliance with the Territorial Planning Act (TPA) and Regulation No. RD-02-20-1 of 2015.

Key Requirements:

  1. Documentation: All construction products, including interior doors, must be accompanied by performance declarations or specifications and safety instructions in Bulgarian.
  2. Certification: For doors intended for fire resistance and smoke control, certification of compliance with national requirements is mandatory, as approved by Order No. RD-02-14-1386 of 2023.

Certification Includes:

  • Product Characteristics:
    • Fire resistance
    • Smoke control
    • Self-closing
  • Procedure: Certification is carried out by notified bodies designated by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.

Validity Period:

Approvals issued prior to October 22, 2024, will remain valid for up to two years after this date or until a new certificate is issued.

Why Does This Matter?

These changes ensure higher safety standards and improved quality of construction products. They also provide clarity for contractors and designers by establishing clear compliance rules.
